Cicadas in West Virginia

From May through June, periodical cicadas belonging to 17-year broods emerge in West Virginia. On the other hand, the annual cicadas come out in late summer. The state has no 13-year cicadas. The adults usually live for 2-6 weeks after emerging from the soil. Brood X is the largest brood visiting the state. Their mating songs can get really reaching 90-120 decibels.
