Cicadas in Washington
Washington state only has annual cicadas. The most common cicada living here is the orchard cicada. It produces a soft clicking sound, not the loud buzz characteristic of most cicadas. In general, Washington cicadas create much less noise than the periodical broods. Their mating calls sound more like a serenade than a racket. The adults live for just 4-6 weeks.
