Cicadas in South Dakota
In South Dakota, you can hear the droning buzz of the cicadas every summer. There are at least 17 species of the insect living in the state. Their mating calls can be more than 100 decibels loud and can be heard from a distance of about 1.5 miles. The state has only annual cicadas and no periodicals. They live for around 5-6 weeks as adults.
