Cicadas in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania has three species of 17-year cicadas that may come out simultaneously. But they can be differentiated by their colors and songs. Eight 17-year broods visit the state – I, II, V, VI, VII, VIII, X, and XIV. 13-year periodicals don’t occur here.
The annual cicadas are seen from July through September. On the other hand, 13- and 17-year periodical cicadas emerge from late May to early June when the ground temperatures reach 64 degrees, usually after a heavy spell of rain.
