Cicadas in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has nine species of cicadas, of which 1 is periodical and the remaining eight are annual. The most common cicada living in the state is the Linne’s cicada. The annual cicadas emerge every year while the periodical comes out every 17 years. Brood XIV is the only brood present here. They sing in the late summer days.
