Cicadas in Kansas
Both periodical and annual cicadas call Kansas their home. 13-year and 17-year broods visit the state. Cicada season starts in mid-summer and continues for about 2 months afterward. You can hear their songs from late-afternoon till dark. They are harmless to humans and cause just slight damage to trees due to their feeding habits.
