Cicadas in Hawaii

Cicadas are not native to Hawaii. But they emerge in late April and May.  Weather conditions play a significant role in their emergence. If there is more rain than usual, they appear earlier, and they arrive late if there is lesser rain. They make loud buzzing sounds that can reach 100 decibels. Mainly periodical cicadas are found in the state.
