Cicadas in Georgia
Georgia has both annual and periodical cicadas. Different broods of the 17-year and 13-year cicadas can be seen here. While the annual cicada bugs come out in summer every year, the periodical ones visit the state only after every 13 or 17 years.
Both types of periodical cicadas have recorded appearances in North Georgia. The annual ones emerge in mid-late August, while it is mid-May for the periodical ones. Their sounds are loud, reaching 90-100 decibels.
