Cicadas in Alabama
Around 20 species of cicadas call Alabama their home. The state has both annual and periodical cicadas. All except the 13-year cicada are annual. As the name suggests, the periodical cicadas emerge in large numbers from the ground every 13 years. They don’t bite or harm people, but their sheer numbers and density when they come out can be a cause of concern.
