Ants in Indiana

Several ant species are native to Indiana. The common big black ants here are the biting carpenter ants. If you see large red ants in the state, they are fire ants, in all likelihood. The tiny red ants found here are mostly Formica ants. Indiana also has an invasive ant, namely, the Asian needle ant.
