Ants in Florida

Florida is home to many species of ants, having very tiny to large sizes. But most of them are not considered pests. The ant season in Florida is typically spring, between April and June. However, ants are active here in most of the months, including the rainy season.

The big red ants found here are usually the poisonous red imported fire ants, and the tiny red ones are the pharaoh ants. The tiny black ones are mostly the sugar ants that bite. The ghost ants are one of the smallest in the state. The common red and black ants here are the biting carpenter ants.
