Cicadas in Florida
In Florida, the loud sounds of cicadas are common during the spring and summer days and nights. They are usually issued from the trees on the trunks of which their cast exoskeletons can be found. Only males produce the sounds that are their calling songs to their mates. Florida has roughly 19 species of cicadas that are all annual, meaning they come out yearly. No periodical cicadas live here.
The cicada bugs come out when the temperature of the ground reaches 64oC. Cicada season in the state starts in mid-summer and continues till fall. The size of the insects ranges from less than a quarter of an inch to over 2-inches. Florida cicadas go away 5-6 weeks after emergence.
