Dragonflies in Florida

As many as 67 species of dragonflies live in Florida. It is because the state receives a large amount of rainfall, especially along the coast. They are beneficial insects as they eat up annoying bugs like mosquitoes and flies right from their larval stage. One of the smallest dragonflies of North America, the little blue dragonlet is found here. The Carolina saddlebags is among the larger species of the insect. The state also houses a spectacular bright red dragonfly, the scarlet skimmer.
