Ants in Colorado
Colorado has a wide variety of ants. All the ant species found here are very social. They live and work together in big, organized colonies. Most of them are wingless, but there may be a few winged reproductive forms of the ants native to the state.
The largest ants occurring in the state are the giant, black, and biting carpenter ants. If you are seeing tiny black ants in Colorado, they are likely to be the odorous house ants. Pavement ants are the most common large red ants of Colorado.
